Burks' Distillery

The Burks' Distillery was build by George R. Burks in 1889. It is located near Loretto, Marion County. It still produces Maker's Mark bourbon.

On October 1, 1953 T. William "Bill" Samuels purchased the Burks' Distillery for $35,000 and production of Maker's Mark began in 1954.

It was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places December 31, 1974. It was designated a U.S. National Historic Landmark on December 16, 1980. It was the first distillery in America to be recognized while the landmark buildings were still in production.

The distillery offers tours and is a part of the American Whiskey Trail and the Kentucky Bourbon Trail.
