George T. Stagg Distillery is located on Frankfort, Franklin County. It has gone by several names over the years including the George T. Stagg Distillery, the Old Fire Copper Distillery, Ancient Age, and is currently Buffalo Trace Distillery. The company claims the distillery is the oldest continuously-operating distillery in the United States.

The Buffalo Trace brand was introduced in August 1999. It refers to the ancient buffalo crossing on the banks of the Kentucky River in Frankfort.

The property, under its George T. Stagg name was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on May 2, 2001 and was designated a National Historic Landmark on March 11, 2013.
