Sergent Major John Williams Green (October 8, 1841 - June 13, 1920) was born October 8, 1841 in Louisville. He was a Civil War Confederate Soldier and historian. He served during the Civil War in the 9th Kentucky (CSA) Infantry, which was part of the legenday Kentucky "Orphan" Brigade. He was promoted for bravery at the battle of Shiloh, and rose to be Sergeant-Major of the regiment.

Green died June 13, 1920 in Louisville. He was buried in Cave Hill Cemetery. His wartime reminiscences were published in 1956 under the title "Johnny Green of the Orphan Brigade."
