Steve Meilinger

Stephen Frank "Steve" Meilinger (December 12, 1930September 14, 2015) was a National Football League end for the Washington Redskins, the Green Bay Packers, and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

He played college football at the University of Kentucky under coach Paul "Bear" Bryant from 1951 to 1953 where he was a three time All-American. He was drafted in the first round of the 1954 NFL Draft, but decided to go into the army where he served as a Tank Commander in the 100th Tank Battalion of the First Armored Division. He returned to professional football in 1956 and played six seasons until injuries forced him to retire.

Following his NFL career, Meilinger joined the United States Marshals Service. During his Marshals Service career, he was one of the original agents for the United States Federal Witness Protection Program, and eventually was promoted to Chief Deputy for the Eastern District of Kentucky, where he served until his retirement.

In 2014, he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.

He died September 14, 2015 at the age of 84 and was buried in Calvary Cemetery in Lexington, Kentucky.
